Durham Dog Park
- Durham now has 2 dog parks; one at Piney Wood Park and one at Northgate Park. Both use the same tag for membership.
- The Piney Wood Durham Dog Park is a large park with 4 enclosed areas. There is an area for small dogs and puppies, another area for larger dogs and 2 separate general purpose areas. The park provides plastic bags that can be used to clean up after your dog if needed. There are benches in all the separate areas and water fountains for both you and your pet.
- You must obtain a tag from the City to use the park and your pet's vaccinations must be current to get the tag. There may be a significant fine connected with violating the tag rule so get the tag. They cost only 10 bucks or there abouts.
- Most dogs have no problem fitting into the crowd of canines at the park so unless you know your dog will be aggressive just unleash him and let him introduce himself. Usually a pack of dogs will rush over to greet the new guy with a few sniffs which may be a little overwhelming for a new dog but this is over quickly and then the fun begins. In my experience at the dog park when someone arrives and doesn't unleash their pet it causes problems with the other dogs and seems to actually cause aggressive behavior.
