Umstead State Park

  • W B Umstead park includes 5,579 acres and 20 miles of hiking trails along with a network of horse and cycling trails. Bikes are not allowed on the hiking trails. The horse / cycling trails look like typical dirt roads and for cycling require at least a hybrid type tire.
  • Reedy Creek winds through the park and there is an old mill stone left along one of the hiking trails. The park is extensively used and is surrounded by an airport and developed residential and business areas so you likely won't feel like you're "out there". Still it is well worth the visit, especially if you're a Triangle area resident.
  • I've visited Umstead with my dog, Dixie several times and she loves to splash in the creek and hike the trails.
